A strong earthquake (6,2 on Richter scale) hit the area of Petrinja and Sisak on December 29, 2020. It damaged many buildings downtown so an urgent reconstruction began. Considering that these are older buildings, many problems arose for the engineers, all centered on the fact that there is no previous project documentation upon which reconstruction can be based.

GO2BIM uses 3D laser scanning method and creates BIM models which serve as a basis for further documentation related to reconstruction, statics and similar.

Engineering project office projekt² hired GO2BIM to produce complete project documentation based on architectural footage of building’s current condition. This is then integrated by several digital tools and used as a unique building overview system.

Laser scanning and 3D BIM model

Three Faro laser scanners were used in order to scan the interior and exterior of the building, while the roof was scanned by a drone using photogrammetric method. Field scanning produced 205 scans and 73 drone pictures, all of them done within a day. Post processing was also done within a day, and since we have three scanners at our disposal, we may conclude that highly complex activities were done within a short period of time.

We completed the BIM Revit model within 132 working hours.

This model was made on LOD 300 (LOD = Level of Detail) and it encompasses all the information on the current condition of the building which is needed by the architects and structural engineers.

Speed, precision and quality

We have delivered complete BIM project documentation on the existing condition to our partner within seven days.

The produced point cloud serves as a basis for production of high-quality and precise 3D BIM model.
